My loves,
I understand how you feel:
When you find yourself in a new classroom, wondering what you are doing there.
When you think you don't fit in your new country and also realize you do not fit in your home country anymore.
When you hear from adults that, as an expat child, you will never have childhood friends.
When you don't know until when you will live in this country and go to your current school.
But I want you to know this:
You are resilient and adaptable, characteristics that make you strong.
Your mind is being shaped in a beautiful way by all the languages you learn and hear.
You are growing up in a diverse community, developing you into a unique individual.
You will have childhood friends and they will be spread around the world.
Your family is your safe harbor, wherever your "home" is.
You will be transformed by this experience and it will mark you forever.
Every time you feel insecure and like a fish out of water, remember that being an expat child is challenging, but it is one of the greatest gifts a family can give to their children. Enjoy it!
