Transitioning from one career path to another is often a transformative journey that requires self-development, knowledge, and a series of experiences that shape our true calling. For me, the transition from being an HR professional to becoming an expat advisor was not an overnight occurrence, but rather the result of years of growth, learning, and personal exploration. In this blog post, I want to share my own career transition story and the passion that drives me to support others in their expat journeys.
A Path Unveiled
When my family and I embarked on our first expat experience, moving to France, I was still uncertain about the future of my career. As an HR leader in a multinational company, I had gained valuable experience but felt that there was something more I could offer. A year later, we moved to Spain, and my professional pursuits were once again put on hold. It was during this time that I began to reflect on my own aspirations and the direction I wanted my career to take.
Nurturing Entrepreneurial Roots
Drawing upon my entrepreneurial spirit, which had been dormant since my days at Babson College, I started a sustainability project centered around selling pre-loved school uniforms. While the project brought me fulfillment and success, I knew deep down that my true calling lay in working with people development. Despite searching for HR leadership positions in corporations, nothing resonated with me. It was a turning point that led me to explore new avenues.
A Journey of Self-Development
During this period of introspection, I dedicated a significant portion of my time to personal development. Alongside managing the responsibilities of being an expat parent and taking care of our household, I focused on honing my skills and gaining a deeper understanding of myself. These efforts and the energy I invested led to a remarkable sense of self-awareness.
The Birth of a Passion
As I reflected on my extensive background in HR and multinational environments, combined with my rich expat experiences spanning over 27 years, a realization struck me like a lightning bolt. Unconsciously, I had been informally guiding and supporting fellow expats for years, though in an unstructured manner. It was a profound moment of clarity—a sign that my passion had always been rooted in helping others navigate the complexities of expat life.
The Birth of Interoots
Fuelled by my inner roots, nurtured through professional and personal experiences, I knew it was time to embrace my true calling. And so, Interoots was born—a culmination of my passion and expertise, now shared with the world and with you. Interoots represents a deep commitment to providing humanized support to expats, fostering a sense of belonging, and offering personalized guidance to help individuals thrive in their cross-cultural journeys.
Career transitions are often sparked by a combination of self-reflection, life experiences, and the realization of one's true passion. My journey from HR professional to expat advisor was no different. Through my own growth, self-awareness, and deep-rooted desire to support others, Interoots came to life.
As I embark on this new chapter, I am driven by the belief that humanized support can transform the expat experience, empowering individuals to navigate the challenges and embrace the opportunities that come with living in a foreign land. Together, let us explore the world of expat life, guided by a passion for connection, personal growth, and the unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others.
